After years of working in the film industry as a cinematographer, Films that Move brought me back to the joy of filmmaking and revealed the absolute necessity to experiment with community for the sake of making cool and meaningful art. The ingredients are all there from the insane talent pool of dancers, choreographers, composers to the physical beauty and friendliness of Cape Charles and the folks who live there. The result of seeing so many projects develop and come to life in such a compressed period of time is invaluable. So are the connections and insights that are available to all that decide to join in the dance.

Renata Sheppard
Renata Sheppard, Artistic Director and Founder of Films that Move, is a choreographer, filmmaker, and scholar who has lived and worked in the US, Europe, and Asia. As a Fulbright Scholar, Henry Luce Scholar, Kate Neal Kinley Fellow, and US Embassy Artist Research grantee, she has been recognized for her innovative engagement of dance across disciplines, and continues to explore the ways that dance and body intelligence intersect with choreography for stage, film, and site specific work.
